Press Release: Junior Rider wins abroad (British Dressage)
23rd August 2013

An unexpected win for a UK Junior rider made up for a somewhat disappointing experience abroad for Senior Brits at Kapellen CDI3*’ 8 –11 August.

17 year old Jessica Gale won the Individual Junior test on a score of 67.658% and came third in the Junior team test behind two European youth riders with her ten year old gelding Rebellski (pictured here with Jess and her trainer Matt Hicks at Kapellen)’ who she has produced from Preliminary to Inter II level herself since early 2010.

Jess’s mum Lynn said "It was all a bit of a whirl wind. Originally we were taking Jess’s main ride’ Umbro S’ but he needed treatment for a sore shoulder at the last minute and we didn’t want to take any chances."

"We decided not to waste the opportunity and to see if we could change the entry and take Rebel instead’ so at six o clock Karen in the BD office was organising the change of horse and by six the next morning we were on our way to Kapellen. This win has surpassed all of our wildest dreams."

Jess travelled to the show with Matt who was to compete at the small tour classes on his ride Talent III’ alongside Lesley Peyton–Gilbert with Woodcroft Garuda K and Kay Maxted on Privaldi’ who was there for the big tour.

Hampshire based Jessica’ who trains with Matt Hicks and Gareth Hughes’ has owned and competed the 16hh dark bay since 2010’ when they started out together at Prelim level. Since then they have risen through the ranks and Kapellen will be their first international competition as a pair.

Jessica owns and competes a second horse’ 12 year old Jazz gelding Umbro S’ who took Jess to her first ever international competition at Vidauban back in 2012’ where they won the Junior Team test.

Both Rebellski and Umbro S were out just last week with Jessica for the Junior classes at Hickstead CDI3*’ Rebellski finishing third in the Team test and Umbro S first in the team and second in the Freestyle.

Hickstead CDI 2013
12th August 2013

Both Rebel and Neukey represented GB at this years Hickstead CDI. Jess was drawn first in the junior team test. Rebel achieved 67.74% which was good enough for 3rd place. Neukey and Jess then went on to win the class with +70% and won a rug courtesy of the sponsors of the class’ NAF products.

Neukey was first for the individual class the next day where Jess unfortunatly went wrong resulting in a 2 mark deduction from all the judges but still managed 68.68% for 2nd. After double checking the test Jess and Rebel scored 65% and 6th place with a couple of mistakes in the flying changes.

Jess then competed Neukey in the freestyle to her King Arthur music where they scored +70% and 2nd with some minor mistakes during the flying changes on a circle.
